چکیده

We consider a random graph G(n, p) whose vertex set V has been randomly embedded in the unit square and whose edges are given weight equal to the geometric distance between their end vertices. Then each pair {u, v} of vertices have a distance in the weighted graph, and a Euclidean distance. The stretch factor of the embedded graph is defined as the maximum ratio of these two distances, over all {u, v} ⊆ V . We give upper and lower bounds on the stretch factor (holding asymptotically almost surely), and show that for p not too close to 0 or 1, these bounds are best possible in a certain sense. Our results imply that the stretch factor is bounded with probability tending to 1 if and only if n(1− p) tends to 0, answering a question of O’Rourke.

A Randomly Embedded Random Graph is Not a Spanner

Select n points uniformly at random from a unit square, and then form a random graph on these points by adding an edge joining each pair independently with probability p. We show that for every fixed > 0, if p < 1 − , then with probability approaching 1 as n becomes large, the resulting embedded graph has unbounded stretch factor.

On Geometric Spanners of Euclidean Graphs and their Applications in Wireless Networks

We consider the problem of constructing a bounded-degree planar geometric spanner for a unit disk graph modeling a wireless network. The related problem of constructing a planar geometric spanner of a Euclidean graph has been extensively studied in the literature. It is well known that the Delaunay subgraph is a planar geometric spanner with stretch factor ; however, its degree may not be bound...

Toroidal Grid Minors and Stretch in Embedded Graphs∗

1 We investigate the toroidal expanse of an embedded graph G, that is, the size of the largest 2 toroidal grid contained in G as a minor. In the course of this work we introduce a new embedding 3 density parameter, the stretch of an embedded graph G, and use it to bound the toroidal 4 expanse from above and from below within a constant factor depending only on the genus and 5 the maximum degree...

On Geometric Spanners of Euclidean and Unit Disk Graphs

We consider the problem of constructing bounded-degree planar geometric spanners of Euclidean and unit-disk graphs. It is well known that the Delaunay subgraph is a planar geometric spanner with stretch factor Cdel ≈ 2.42; however, its degree may not be bounded. Our first result is a very simple linear time algorithm for constructing a subgraph of the Delaunay graph with stretch factor ρ = 1 + ...

On the Choice of a Spanning Tree for Greedy Embedding of Network Graphs

Greedy embedding is a graph embedding that makes the simple greedy geometric packet forwarding successful for every source-destination pair. It is desirable that graph embeddings also yield low hop overhead (stretch) of the greedy paths over the corresponding shortest paths. In this paper we study how topological and geometric properties of embedded graphs influence the hop stretch. Based on th...
